If you are asked to meet with your department administrators, you have the right to be accompanied by a union representative. This is part of the federal regulation known as your "Weingarten Rights." Always contact the union if your department asks to meet with you.

You might not be told in advance, which is why you want to make sure to ask a rep to join you.

The rep is primarily there to observe and to take notes. We are not attorneys, and we will not be arguing a case for you. But we can help establish a record, and we can advise you on your rights under our contract.  

The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) is an independent office within NYU dedicated to protecting employee and student rights under Title IX. If you are ever the subject of a complaint, or are ever asked to meet with the OEEO, you have the right to be accompanied by a union representative. Student complaints are reviewed through this office, and a rep can help you through those meetings as well.
