FAQs:

RIGHT TO UNION REPRESENTATION

  • If you are asked to meet with your department administrators, you have the right to be accompanied by a union representative. This is part of the federal regulation known as your "Weingarten Rights." Always contact the union if your department asks to meet with you.

  • You might not be told in advance, which is why you want to make sure to ask a rep to join you.

  • The rep is primarily there to observe and to take notes. We are not attorneys, and we will not be arguing a case for you. But we can help establish a record, and we can advise you on your rights under our contract.

  • The Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) is an independent office within NYU dedicated to protecting employee and student rights under Title IX. If you are ever the subject of a complaint, or are ever asked to meet with the OEEO, you have the right to be accompanied by a union representative. Student complaints are reviewed through this office, and a rep can help you through those meetings as well.
