FAQs:
Union Eligibility
and Membership
-
If you are an adjunct or part-time faculty member who works 40+ contact hours per academic year (September 1-August 31), or 75+ contact hours of individual instruction or tutoring during a semester, you are eligible to join the union and are required by NYU to pay dues to the union.
-
Union membership is not automatic. The easiest way to become a member of the union, and receive all the protections and benefits in our new contract, is to fill out and return a union membership card. Be sure to fill out the card in its entirety.
There are 2 places on the card to sign:The first is to become a member.
The second authorizes automatic deductions from your paycheck.
Email your card to the Union Administrator and the NYU Unit Chair

Dues are 1.44% of your gross pay. There is also a one-time $50 initiation fee.
This is one of the lowest dues collection amounts of all unions. Dues are only collected when you are working. Additionally, annual raises won in every contract since 2002 have outpaced the individual dues rate. -
No. If you filled out the membership card and dues are deducted from your paycheck you do not have to do it again. You are a member of our union and protected under the contract.
