FAQs:

Paid sick & safe leave

  • Yes. Paid sick and safe leave is a union-negotiated benefit for all adjuncts covered by our contract. You are allowed up to seven sick days during the academic year.

The maximum number of sick or safe days you can take each semester is as follows:

    • Fall: 4 days

    • Winter (J-term): 3 days

    • Spring: 4 days

    • Summer: 3 days

  • Sick days are available on the first day of the Fall Semester.

Every Fall Semester the count resets.

Sick days do not carry over from year to year.

  • Assuming you have sick days available and you provide the required notification, you will be paid for sick days when you need to miss class. The university is required to arrange for and compensate a replacement teacher.

  • If you are sick, and you don’t want to take a formal sick day, or don’t have a sick day to take, you can still make up a missed class at a later date during the semester.
